Making a commitment to do something, then making it happen, can be two different things.
The important thing to remember is that groups of people rarely come together smoothly. Something always comes up, which is why it is so important to stay flexible and to be responsive to each situation as it arises.
For instance, sometimes a group will get started only to discover the day or time they’ve chosen isn’t working very well. Try switching the meeting to another day or time, or meet every other week instead of weekly. Appendix Two in the Facilitator’s Guide provides you with alternative timetables for your meetings.
Perhaps you envisioned having the study in your parish only to find out space is not available when you need it. Don’t let that stop you! Many of our groups have been meeting in their homes for years. Some groups started out in homes and later moved to a parish setting and vice versa. The best rule of thumb in these situations is to “go with the flow!”
The Facilitator’s Guide has a section in it that gives you suggestions and solutions for a variety of circumstances that may arise. Its another reason why some seasoned group facilitators have said it is the best Guide they have every used!
