Women of Grace study groups are as unique as the women who participate. Demographically, participants range in age from young adults to octogenarians and come from all states in life. The study is designed to meet each woman where she is in her spiritual life and move her forward into an ever deepening union with God. Thus, every woman can find a home in a woman of grace study group. A typical group can range in size from three to 50 or more women. Depending on what facilities are available, groups can meet in someone’s home or in a parish hall.
The Role of the Facilitator
Every group has a facilitator who volunteers to organize the study. Initially, she takes care of ordering the materials, notifying interested women, and arranging a meeting place either in someone’s home or in a parish facility. The two most necessary attributes of a facilitator are a willing heart and a welcoming spirit.
The two most necessary attributes of a facilitator are a willing heart and a welcoming spirit. Information on how to partner with your parish, promote your study, and meet the needs of group dynamics is contained in the comprehensive Facilitator’s Guide which comes with the Facilitator Kit (go to www.womenofgrace.com/catalog to purchase the Kit).
The study guide also contains suggested formats for meetings, discussion starters, practical tips and insights, and the answer key to the Study Guide questions. It all but tells you when to put on the coffee!
A Typical Study Group Agenda
The typical Women of Grace meeting lasts for approximately 90 minutes and follows a basic format with variations depending on what works best for the members.
Groups usually begin with a brief period for socializing and refreshments (about 15 minutes).
The meeting opens with a prayer to the Holy Spirit, a decade of the rosary or some other prayer, followed by singing of the Women of Grace theme song.
The next 50 minutes are spent reviewing the previous week’s lesson and sharing how it impacted their lives.
Next, the women watch the subsequent video lesson by Johnnette while answering questions about it in their study guides. After the video, the group discusses the answers from their Video Response Sheets and the meeting adjourns with prayer. Prior to the next meeting the women complete the “At Home” lessons found in their Study Guide.
